natural weight loss supplement

Natural weight loss supplement has become so popular in the last decade that manufacturers are spinning out more and more products and this leaves us, the consumers, confused by the choices. Probably the most well known of these products are pretty much household names like Guarana, Hoodia, dandelion, extract of green tea and the slightly lesser know cascara.

One of the most exciting finds in recent years has been the Hoodia Gordonni cactus from certain parts of Africa which acts as an appetite suppressant. By fooling the brain into believing the body does not need food it is able to control how much the user consumes and has been used by local populations for many centuries.

Guarana however, is a stimulant and diuretic that is made from the seeds of a Brazilian plant which contain caffeine which speeds up the body, thus producing a slight increase in metabolism. Its side effects outweigh its efficacy as an natural weight loss supplement with some potentially negative effects like high blood pressure, nausea, dizziness and anxiousness for example.

One particular herb that has been used for many years is dandelion which also has a diuretic effect which is not too much of a problem although some allergic reactions to its use have been reported. Whilst it is very effective at reducing the amount of fluid in the body, this natural weight loss supplement is not designed to be used on daily basis.

Another method of getting rid of toxins from the body is by using the laxative cascara which will also help with weight control. Just because it is marketed as a natural weight loss supplement doesn't make it any better and its overuse can cause depletion in vital nutrients.

Green tea extract is probably the most popular yet safe natural weight loss supplement and appears in vitamins, energy drinks and even in concentrated pill form. Some studies have shown positive results for increased weight loss with the use of green tea extract so long as healthy eating and exercise habits are also being followed.

Thousands of dollars are spent on these natural weight loss supplements, yet there is very little proof that any of them are effective in losing weight. A few products containing Hoodia are being sold for close to 50 dollars for a one month supply so you would be forgiven in thinking that the only natural weight loss supplement that can be expected is more evident in our wallets than around our belly.

The real truth is that herbal weight loss supplements do have their place but they should not be relied upon to control weight on their own but should be part of a regime which promotes healthy eating and exercise. At least taking a natural weight loss supplement is better than a chemical one.
